Max Verstappen Confirms Commitment to Red Bull Through 2026: A Look into His Decision
Max Verstappen reaffirms his commitment to Red Bull for the 2026 Formula 1 season, dispelling rumors of a move to Mercedes and emphasizing his focus on performance.

Max Verstappen, the four-time Formula 1 world champion, has put an end to months of speculation by confirming his continued commitment to Red Bull Racing through the 2026 season. Despite rumors linking him to a potential move to Mercedes, Verstappen insists that his decision was always straightforward and focused on performance.
The Decision
Verstappen revealed that his decision to stay with Red Bull was never in serious doubt. "For me, it was very, very simple anyway," he told ESPN. "I only say what I want to say. And I was never even stressed about it at all because... of course, naturally, you always want to win. But at the same time, you just work on performance."
Contract and Performance
With a contract extending until 2028, Verstappen has consistently demonstrated his commitment to Red Bull. His championship position going into the summer break played a significant role in his decision not to trigger any exit clauses in his contract.
Relationship with Toto Wolff
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff had publicly expressed interest in signing Verstappen, leading to widespread speculation. However, Verstappen clarified that his interactions with Wolff were purely social. "There's no secret," Verstappen said. "I even went for lunch with Toto and the family, and I think that's absolutely allowed. It's not even that you speak about Formula 1 business, it's just life."
Looking Ahead
As the 2025 season progresses, Verstappen remains focused on maintaining his competitive edge. "I just live my life, you know, see what happens next," he added. "For me, there's nothing wrong with talking or listening [to offers] or whatever, but it was all under control."
Mercedes' Future
Mercedes is expected to continue with their current lineup of George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli into 2026, signaling their confidence in their existing team structure.
Verstappen's reaffirmation of his commitment to Red Bull underscores his dedication to the team and his relentless pursuit of success in Formula 1.
